With this issue of Racing World we complete our 7th year of publication, covering the exciting world of Equine sport – horse racing, polo and other equestrian events. Having moved into unchartered territory in August 2003, we are happy to have established ourselves in this niche market providing enthusiasts of the sport with comprehensive information, detailed reviews, timely previews, profile interviews, news and views, breeding and pedigree updates, racing statistics and lots of interesting racing information. Polo has been an intrinsic part of Racing World and we have tried to cover as many events as possible during the polo season. Over the past seven years we have had writers from around the globe show interest in writing for Racing World and this has added a new dimension with an international perspective. Promoting all aspects of equine sport is our objective and we hope that those connected with the sport will contribute with ideas that will invoke more interest to those already involved with the sport as well as to attract new entrants to the game. We take this opportunity to thank all our supporters, advertisers, subscribers, contributors and the racing fan in general who have supported us this far. As we commence our 8th year of publication we look forward to your continued support.

CARLOS GRACIDA
A GRAND SLAM DOUBLE WHAMMY PLAYER
Carlos Gracida, is a polo player, considered by many to be a living legend, one of the few, who has been ranked, at a 10-goal handicap, he achieved at the astounding age of twenty-five.
Carlos was born in Mexico City on September 5th, 1960, and being a product of the Gracida polo lineage, he began playing when he was only 5 years old and was competitive at the astounding age of 10. His father Guillermo, who himself was a 9-goaler, played in Meadowbrook and Palermo in Argentina, enjoying a 5 goal distinction at the age of 65. Carlos reached 10 goals in 1985, and has since spent 15 years at this handicap. He belonged to Ellerstina, the legendry team owned by the Australian magnate Kerry Packer, as well as La Espadana, known as the best polo team this side of the twentieth century.
The purple patch for Carlos came in 1994,when he was victorious in every possible tournament the game offered, including the Argentinian Triple Crown of Hurlingham , Tortuguitas and Palermo. That very year he did a double whammy and also gobbled the U.S. Open and the British Open Gold Cup. He became the only player in history to win the Grand Slam of Polo in the year1987. And guess what? …He replicated the feat, with a grand slam double whammy, again in 1988 and 1994! Alongside brother Guillermo Gracida, nicknamed Memo, Carlos had won Player of the Year in America, a whopping five times. That made him the only player to do so in the history of the game.
Both Memo and Carlos, along with the Mexican Antonio Herrera, were the only three foreigners to win the Abierto Argentino de Palermo, which is a very prestigious tournament. As if that not being enough, they achieved this honour 5 times. Carlos is also the only foreigner who won the Olimpia de Plata, Argentina’s Most Valuable Player Award in the year 1988.He bagged the British Open Gold Cup ten times, more than any other player, and the U.S open nine times. A 10 goal milestone was reached in 1985 and he spent fifteen years hovering on and off at 10 goals, which included the 2006 season at Palm Beach.
Ranked at 9 goals in England, Her Majesty The Queen considers him to be her blue-eyed player. As a consequence of this he finds himself to be the favourite instructor of the celebrity circuit, as well as the blue blooded royalty like HRH Prince Charles, HRH Prince William, HRH Prince Harry, King Constantine the 2nd of Greece, HRH Prince Talal of Jordan, James Packer and Sylester Stallone, to name a few.
Carlo’s famous horse was Chesney, which won the Best Playing Pony award on many occasions in 1988, 89 and 91, at the British Open Gold Cup. However, Nony Nony his personal favourite was a seven-times Gold Cup winner in England.Wellington Florida is the domain residence of this legendry figure along with his teenage sons. Carlos is an avid lover of cinema, especially biopics. His hobbies include playing golf, tennis and on other days would you believe, Alpine Skiing.
