With this issue of Racing World we complete our 7th year of publication, covering the exciting world of Equine sport – horse racing, polo and other equestrian events. Having moved into unchartered territory in August 2003, we are happy to have established ourselves in this niche market providing enthusiasts of the sport with comprehensive information, detailed reviews, timely previews, profile interviews, news and views, breeding and pedigree updates, racing statistics and lots of interesting racing information. Polo has been an intrinsic part of Racing World and we have tried to cover as many events as possible during the polo season. Over the past seven years we have had writers from around the globe show interest in writing for Racing World and this has added a new dimension with an international perspective. Promoting all aspects of equine sport is our objective and we hope that those connected with the sport will contribute with ideas that will invoke more interest to those already involved with the sport as well as to attract new entrants to the game. We take this opportunity to thank all our supporters, advertisers, subscribers, contributors and the racing fan in general who have supported us this far. As we commence our 8th year of publication we look forward to your continued support.

PEOPLE : AUGUST - SEPTEMBER 2010
C D KATRAK Sheds
His Maiden Status with the
Kingfisher Derby Bangalore
What better way is there to shed your maiden status than in a Derby. The Bangalore summer Derby 2010, the first Derby for three-year-olds in the country, will be truly memorable for Cooji Katrak, who trained Moonlight Romance to perfection to win him his first Bangalore Derby, which also happened to be his first win in Bangalore. It was a first for her connections, owners Mr Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan and Prem Tharani who were delighted to be leading in their first Derby winner. Her breeder, Ameeta Mehra is also over the moon as this win was the first
Derby for her stallion China Visit who stands at Usha Stud Farm.
Widely accepted as a trainer who almost inspires precociousness in his wards, it is puzzling why Cooji never made the trip down south earlier.
“We always knew she was a serious filly. I thought very highly of her when she won her races in Mumbai. The Fillies’ Trial Stakes in Bangalore was a disaster, when she was ridden into the rear side of four horses, and by the time she got herself out of it and spurted along the rails, where...

JAGGI DHARIWAL
MASTER OF HIS CRAFT
There is an air of quiet satisfaction surrounding Jagjit Singh Dhariwal who has always preferred to let his horses do the talking rather than trumpet his considerable achievements. This summer has been a good one for Jaggi (as he is universally known) with his horses taking him to the top of the trainer’s leader board in addition to garnering three of the major prizes on offer.
With the competition being intense this summer in Bangalore saddling Siachen (Fillies’ Trial Stakes) and Arabian Prince (Bangalore St Leger) to classic victories
has given Jaggi a lot of pleasure. Training Siachen was an especially tough task as she was troubled with niggling injuries and getting her spot on to win the Fillies Trial Stakes was extremely creditable. With Arabian Prince, Jaggi was far more confident of doing well as he had trained his Brave Act half-brother Arabian Knight who was a late developer. Arabian Prince did him proud by winning the prestigious Maharaja’s Cup before landing the St Leger. His long term...
