FEATURE : FEBRUARY - MARCH 2012
The 2011 elections to the committee of the R.W.I.T.C. saw twelve candidates enter the fray which lent some interest to its outcome. We have always wanted to do a preview to the elections but as the final list of nominees kept changing till the last minute, it was practically impossible to do so. We sent out a questionaire to those elected to the committee for the year 2011/ 2012, and to those that lost election, and we really appreciate the effort taken to reply to them, which highlights their role as a committee member along with their goals and objectives for the coming year. Understanding the urgent need to tackle the ever increasing taxation on betting, the renewal of the license to conduct racing, and the lease renewal which comes up in 2013, the immediate need for new stabling and a host of several important issues, this feature highlights the steps initiated and the ongoing attempts being made....
ELECTED CANDIDATES
Mr. Vivek Jain Chairman of the Club
Well done! You have topped the list with the maximum number of votes. What are your plans for the coming year?
It’s going to be a difficult and challenging year. My focus will
be on pursuing the reduction of the betting tax, renewing our license to race, starting talks on the lease extension, examining the possibilities of adding club facilities for our members, improving stabling infrastructure and addressing a host of litigations on Bjrs, income tax and other demands...

Was the result up to your expectations?

Will the new committee, with two new entrants, Mr. Khushroo Dhunjibhoy and Mr. Shivlal Daga, mean a continuation of the same policies as last year?

Do you see much opposition?

You have initiated tackling the issue of taxation. What are the steps and remedy envisaged?

A Damocles sword hanging over our heads is the lease expiring in 2013. What do you see happening?

How do you see the future of the Club?

... and more with their answers

Mr. Jaydev Mody
For how many years have you been on the committee? Winning this year with the second largest number of votes, did that surprise you?
I have been on the committee for three years now.
Winning with a large number of votes is always surprising....and gratifying!!!

Was the result of the elections up to your expectations?

Do you see it as being a continuation of the policies as
last year?

... and more questions with their answers

Mr. Champaklal Zaveri
How does it feel to be on the committee again?
It is great to be back on the Committee. The Club and the sport has always been a passion.

Was the result up to your expectations?

Do you see any policy change?

What are your plans for the forthcoming year?

... and more questions with their answers

Mr. Ram Shroff
How does it feel to be back on the committee?
It feels great and I am thankful to the members for their continued support.

Was the result up to your expectations?

Do you see a change of policies this year?

What would be your objectives and goals this year?

... and more questions with their answers

Dr. Shashi Chand Jain
You have always garnered support at the elections. In what way are you going to be involved with the management of the club?
I am now the senior most committee member. I will give my advice and guidance on important matters concerning the Club.

Was the result up to your expectation?

What do you see as the future for the club?

What do you see as major improvements that need to be done, both in racing and administratively?

... and more questions with their answers

Mr. Shivlal Daga
You resigned last year and that took the racing fraternity by storm as it came at a very crucial time when a decision on the Boldenone matter was being taken?
I resigned as I did not agree with the decision in Mr. D’Mello’s case taken by an overwhelming majority of my colleagues. I believe that drugs need to be stamped out and repeated offenders should not be mollycoddled. In a democracy, the wishes of the majority are paramount but those who do not agree also have a right of protest and to disassociate themselves from the decision. As Chairman I found it galling to

pronounce a verdict I did not at all believe in. To my mind I could not resign as Chairman and yet remain a Steward so I resigned from both posts. It was a coincidence that the D’Mello case happened just before the Boldenone cases. Details have been put by me on the net [Indiarace.com] at that time itself.

Are you happy to be back on the committee?

How long have you been working on the committee?

Are you happy with the outcome of the elections?

... and more questions with their answers

Mr. Geoffery Nagpal
Did you have any apprehensions about getting elected this year?
I was not particularly worried as I had made a good start considering last year was my first year. But I feel I should have done better.

You have been seen working very hard over the last one year, what are your main areas of activity and what portfolios do you handle?

What have you accomplished last year and what do you plan to accomplish this year?

... and more questions with their answers

CANDIDATES THAT DID NOT GET ELECTED
Mr. Ashwin Mehta

For a moment I was wondering why me? After all I had lost the elections. So I talked to Ms. Lynn Deas and she clarified that she was keen to cover all aspects of the elections and requested comments from...

What were your reasons for standing for the elections this year?

What would have been your plans and what would you like to see being done?

... and more questions with their answers

Mr. Gautam Lala

You must be disappointed with the elections?
Well I did my best in the last two years when I was on the Committee. But then, it’s an election and anything can happen.

Are you still going to be actively involved in spite of not being elected?

What do you see as major improvements that need to be done, both in racing and administratively?

... and more questions with their answers
